Parks and Recreation
Battle Park Built around 1816, this is the site of the original village of Rocky Mount and its first post office. The park contains approximately 54 acres with picnic areas, scenic views with walking trails along the Tar River and a marble monument honoring the Confederate soldiers.
Sunset Park This park, off of Sunset Avenue on River Drive, recently has been updated with many new attractions for the family. It features a miniature train, historical carousel, picnic shelters, lighted tennis courts, softball field, basketball courts, swimming pool and a Spray Park featuring 10 computer controlled water spray fountains within a traditional playground structure.
Rocky Mount City Lake and Park This stately man-made lake built in 1933 has become a fixture in Rocky Mount. It features a lighted fountain that at Christmas time has all the Christmas colors flashing off and on. Gazebos, walking paths, wildlife island and picnic areas flank the lake on all sides for a lovely view. This is a nice place for an afternoon of casual fishing or feeding the many ducks.
